Pelican Bay inmate dies of injuries from earlier assault

CRESCENT CITY, Calif. (AP) — Officials say a Northern California prison inmate who was stabbed by another prisoner has died of his injuries. Pelican Bay State Prison officials say 25-year-old Jacob King died Wednesday. He was stabbed in the chest and back during a Sept. 19 assault in an exercise yard. King was serving a nearly six-year sentence from Riverside County for driving under the influence causing bodily injury or death. It was his second strike. Colorado records 4,650 hospitalized with flu last season

DENVER (AP) — Colorado health officials say the last flu season was the worst on record with 4,650 state residents hospitalized because of the viral infection. The Denver Post reports there were also 183 flu outbreaks in long-term care facilities from October 2017 to late May 2018, the highest number recorded in the state. Dr. Rachel Herlihy, the state communicable disease epidemiologist, is urging people to get vaccinated this year, saying the flu vaccination helps keep residents out of the hospital and reduces the spread of the disease. Rapper Nelly settles with woman over sexual assault lawsuit

Report: Oregon child welfare agency sued over boy's abuse

Michigan man gets 15 to 25 years for death of daughter

MIDLAND, Mich. (AP) — A Michigan man who authorities say threw his 1-year-old daughter against a wall, killing her, has been sentenced to 15 to 25 years in prison.
