YELLVILLE, Ark. (AP) — A north Arkansas teenager faces four felony charges after allegedly breaking into a school building and stealing a deputy's body armor and duty belt that contained a gun. SPENCER, Ind. (AP) — A fire tower that's been a popular attraction for decades at Indiana's oldest state park is getting a facelift. Renovation work began recently on the tower at McCormick's Creek State Park , financed by $95,000 raised for the project. Park visitors won't have access to the 86-foot-tall steel tower during the months-long renovation. HOUSTON (AP) — Houston's mayor is hoping the city's ongoing feud between dueling parades honoring Martin Luther King Jr. will soon be over. The Houston Chronicle reports Mayor Sylvester Turner has backed a 40-year-old parade by the Black Heritage Society as the city's official event honoring the slain civil rights leader. The downtown parade first began in 1978. A dueling event by the MLK parade foundation was first held in 1995. MONTPELIER, Vt. (AP) — Land surrounding Burnt Mountain in Vermont will now be a forest reserve and store carbon to help California meet its greenhouse gas reduction goals. The Nature Conservancy announced on Thursday that 5,400 acres (2,185 hectares) of forested land around Burnt Mountain will be the first Vermont site eligible for California's regulatory compliance market. PORT ORCHARD, Wash. (AP) — A tip from a Kitsap County Jail inmate has led to the arrest of a suspect in a South Kitsap fatal hit-and-run in 2015. The Kitsap Sun reports the inmate told investigators he had struggled with his conscience over witnessing the incident. BURLINGTON, Vt. (AP) — Nurses at Vermont's largest hospital are back on the job after a two-day strike. The strike of 1,800 nurses from the University of Vermont Medical Center ended at 7 a.m. Saturday after 48 hours. Hospital administrators brought in outside nurses during the strike and officials said most hospital operations were unaffected by the walkout. State Controller Betty Yee was injured Friday by a suspected impaired driver in a collision in Alameda, the California Highway Patrol said. Yee and her husband were passengers in an unmarked car being driven by a CHP officer around 3:25 p.m. near the Posey Tube and Marina Village Parkway.
