PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) — The National Science Foundation has selected a group of oceanographers in New England to operate a new research vessel. The University of Rhode Island said Thursday the $100 million vessel will be delivered to its Graduate School of Oceanography in 2021. Claire McCaskill says federal drug enforcement officials didn't hold major drug distributors accountable while prescription opioids flowed into Missouri between 2012 and 2017. McCaskill released a report Wednesday that she says found three major distributors reported wildly different numbers of suspicious shipments of opioids to the U.S. Drug Enforcement Agency. CASPER, Wyo. (AP) — A man shot and killed by police in central Wyoming has been identified as 21-year-old William T. McCollum, of Casper. The Natrona County Coroner's Office released the victim's name Thursday, two days after the incident. According to the Casper Police Department, one of its officers shot and killed an armed man at a convenience store on Tuesday morning. PARADIS, La. (AP) — Authorities in Louisiana say a deputy who was dragged a short distance after attempting to stop a suspect from driving off has been treated and released from a hospital. NOLA.com/The Times-Picayune reports the St. Charles Parish sheriff's deputy was injured during a traffic stop Tuesday night on U.S. 90 in Paradis. A news release says it was determined during the stop that the driver, Lamar Lathan, was wanted in Chicago on drug charges.
