HONOLULU (AP) — Two state House committees have voted to advance a measure that would allow terminally ill patients to request prescriptions for lethal doses of medication. The House Health and Human Services Committee on Wednesday voted in favor of the measure called the "Our Care, Our Choice Act." House Health and Human Services Chairman Rep. LAS CRUCES, N.M. (AP) — A state judge has dropped one of five charges in a case against a southwestern New Mexico district attorney involved in a suspected DWI traffic stop. KVIA-TV in El Paso, Texas, reports State District Judge Douglas Driggers recently tossed the reckless use of a vehicle charge against the Silver City District Attorney Francesca Martinez-Estevez. RICHMOND, Va. (AP) — Virginia lawmakers have approved allowing new betting machines at a once-popular horse racetrack. The state Senate approved legislation Wednesday to allow historical race terminals at Colonial Downs, a recently shuttered horse track about 30 miles (50 kilometers) outside of Richmond. FLEMINGSBURG, Ky. (AP) — Transportation officials say they have finished work to temporarily stabilize a 19th century bridge in northeastern Kentucky that was damaged by flooding last year. A statement from the Kentucky Department of Highways on Wednesday said crews inserted steel beams through Dover Covered Bridge in Mason County and tied them to the structure and the ground. BLADES, Del. (AP) — State environmental officials say more contamination has been found in private wells in a southern Delaware town where residents were advised last month not to drink the water. Officials say sampling of 41 private wells in Blades has found elevated levels of perfluorinated compounds in three of them. A fourth well had a PFC concentration below the Environmental Protection Agency's health advisory of 70 parts per trillion, but close enough that the homeowner was provided with a carbon filtration system.

RENO, Nev. (AP) — A Reno police officer who was shot and injured in the line of duty last year has received a Purple Heart, one of only 12 awarded in the city in the past 100 years. The Reno Gazette-Journal reports that Officer Rand Hutson accepted the medals on Wednesday at the Reno City Council chamber. Hutson was shot in March 2017 during a traffic stop. CLEVELAND (AP) — Three Cleveland police officers are facing administrative charges in connection with 60 sex crimes and child abuse cases that went uninvestigated for more than a year. The Plain Dealer reports the cases were originally assigned to Tom Ross, a former detective in the Sex Crimes and Child Abuse unit. Investigators say Ross took the cases with him when he was promoted in 2015, but he "failed to properly investigate." LAS VEGAS (AP) — A Utah man who was struck by lightning while playing golf says the time between being hit and waking up was a blur. KSL-TV reports that Justin Hofer, a 38-year-old father of five, has been at a burn trauma center in Las Vegas since he was struck Friday afternoon. Hofer says he remembers teeing off on the first hole — and then waking up Sunday at the hospital. He says it's like his "memory just got erased."
