FARMINGTON, N.M. (AP) — A U.S. Department of Homeland Security employee is facing charges after authorities say she embezzled more than $26,000 from her New Mexico grandmother. The Daily Times of Farmington, New Mexico, reports 32-year-old Cassie Davis was recently arrested on embezzlement and forgery charges in connection with unlawfully signing checks. PHOENIX (AP) — Arizona Gov. Doug Ducey says the State Capitol's dome will be lit blue throughout January for human trafficking prevention month. Ducey says it's an effort to bring greater awareness and attention to human trafficking, which victimizes vulnerable populations including women, children and impoverished individuals and has impacted nearly 21 million victims worldwide. PHOENIX (AP) — Lawyers for a former city bus driver charged in a string of deadly nighttime shootings in Phoenix are objecting to any efforts to make their client take court-ordered IQ or sanity tests. Attorneys for Aaron Juan Saucedo filed court papers last week expressing their objections to such examinations. PHOENIX (AP) — Arizona's largest electric utility is sending crews to help restore power to hurricane-ravaged Puerto Rico. Arizona Public Service Co. says 50 power line workers and support staff are heading to the U.S. territory in the Caribbean early this month. The company has already sent heavy trucks and other equipment to Lake Charles, Louisiana, for shipment by barge to Puerto Rico. WINDOW ROCK, Ariz. (AP) — The director of the Navajo Nation's Division of Economic Development has stepped down. Tribal officials say Crystal Deschinny left the job Tuesday for personal reasons. Deschinny was appointed to the position in March 2016 and brought a background in financial investment, investment management and diversifying economic development. CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) — The U.S. Attorney's office says a West Virginia man who used a gun to steal a taxi has been sentenced to 12 years in prison. Officials say 29-year-old Marshall Leroy Saunders was a suspect in an unrelated crime when police observed him entering a taxi in Vienna on Oct. 6, 2016. RICHMOND, Va. (AP) — The co-founder of a defunct blood-testing company is suing her former law firm for malpractice and asking for at least $150 million in damages. The Richmond Times-Dispatch reports that Tonya H. Mallory, the co-founder and former CEO of Health Diagnostic Laboratory, is suing LeClairRyan in Richmond Circuit Court. Mallory said the law firm gave her incorrect legal advice regarding HDL's practice of paying fees to physicians for blood samples. She is currently being sued by the federal government and others. PASSAIC, N.J. (AP) — New Jersey police say a woman who they initially believed was stabbed on New Year's Day had in fact gotten drunk and fell down the stairs. Passaic police say they initially investigated the facial injuries of a Passaic woman early Monday as a stabbing. LANCASTER, Pa. (AP) — Police say an employee of a Pennsylvania bar fired a gun during a New Year's event after a patron picked up a table and acted as if he were going to swing it as a weapon. Lancaster police arrived at the bar shortly after 1 a.m. Monday and were told that a worker fired a single shot during the commotion. No one was injured. Police say the employee has a valid permit to carry the weapon. No charges have been filed. Police continue to investigate.
