Police: Driver who hit cyclist thought it was a deer
RIPLEY, W.Va. (AP) — Police in West Virginia say a driver who hit a bicyclist did not stop because he thought he had hit a deer.
WTAP-TV reports John Wesley Hall was driving a 2005 silver Jeep Liberty on Tuesday when he hit a man riding a bicycle. The man, John Baker, was taken to a hospital for treatment.
Hall told investigators he did not learn of the incident until Wednesday morning when his girlfriend saw a news story about a crash that happened at the same time and place he said he had hit a deer. Hall's girlfriend picked him up at work and drove him to the Jackson County Sheriff's Office.
Deputies arrested Hall and charged him with leaving the scene of an accident. He is in jail on a $10,000 bond.
