Raiders K Matt McCrane ready for debut on the dirt
New Raiders kicker Matt McCrane is originally from Brownwood, Texas.
“So I’ve kicked off dirt before,” he said.
Still, the dirt infield at the Coliseum can be tricky. That’s why McCrane spent about 90 minutes Friday morning at the stadium, practicing kicks ahead of Sunday’s game against Cleveland.
McCrane, 24, will make his NFL debut after signing with the Raiders on Wednesday to replace Mike Nugent, who was placed on injured reserve with a hip injury.
Friday’s session gave McCrane a chance to kick with different cleats on the Coliseum dirt - he’s going with a standard soccer cleat - and hone the field-goal operation with long snapper Trent Sieg and holder Johnny Townsend.
