Cal’s bungling special teams hoping to be, well, special again
It wasn’t exactly Babe Ruth calling his shot in the 1932 World Series or Joe Namath guaranteeing a victory in Super Bowl III, but Cal special teams coordinator Charlie Ragle wanted to predict something extraordinary this week.
“Oh my, he’s close to breaking one,” Ragle said of kick returner Ashtyn Davis. “You don’t win games by being close, but I think we’re making progress and we’re going to break one. He’s a threat back there every time he touches it. We’ve got to make teams pay.”
Saturday might be the day Ragle turns prophetic. Not only are the Bears playing an inferior Idaho State team, but they also know they need to change the early-season narrative on their special teams.
