Stocks turn higher as details on metals tariffs emerge
NEW YORK (AP) — U.S. stocks are rising Thursday afternoon as investors anticipated that President Donald Trump's tariffs on steel and aluminum imports will be less harsh than they had feared. Trump is scheduled to formally order the tariffs this afternoon.
Health care companies are broadly higher as pharmacy benefits manager Express Scripts jumps after health insurer Cigna agreed to buy it. Technology companies are rising as well while energy companies slip along with oil prices.
KEEPING SCORE: The Standard & Poor's 500 index climbed 10 points, or 0.4 percent, to 2,737 as of 3:10 p.m. Eastern time. The Dow Jones industrial average rose 68 points, or 0.3 percent, to 24,869.
