House report seeks changes in handling of misconduct claims
BOSTON (AP) — The Massachusetts House is being urged to adopt a revamped set of procedures for handling allegations of sexual harassment involving lawmakers and staff.
The recommendations on Thursday are largely aimed at protecting the confidentiality of individuals who are concerned they will face retaliation if they come forward with complaints against powerful legislators.
Democratic Speaker Robert DeLeo asked House Counsel in October to review how to investigate and act on complaints after The Boston Globe detailed several alleged incidents, including one in which a female lobbyist said an unnamed legislator strongly implied he'd vote for a bill in exchange for sex.
