Expectation-defying magic acts descend on the Exit
Now in its third year, Fog City Magic Fest offers the Bay Area the chance to see renowned local and visiting magicians, all in one intimate venue — the Exit Theatre — and at reasonable prices.
Among the highlights of the four-day festival, curated by Jay Alexander and Christian Cagigal, is Jade, the first woman to win the International Brotherhood of Magicians’ Gold Medal of Magic, who performs Thursday, Jan. 25, at 7 p.m.
“More often than not, whenever anybody says ‘magician,’ immediately they will think of a white man,” she told The Chronicle last year. It’s an expectation Jade, who is of Chinese descent, delights in flouting.
Other highlights include the Magic Slam on Saturday, Jan.
