Amid Israel’s attacks on Palestinian soil, a recent American official has announced that Israel has agreed to a ceasefire in Gaza. This American official, who preferred not to be named, said on Saturday, in talks with some reporters that Israel has “more or less” agreed to a six-week ceasefire proposal in the Gaza Strip.
However, this American official told reporters that a ceasefire framework has been prepared and “the Israelis have more or less accepted it.” Nevertheless, these statements have been made while Israel has not officially confirmed whether it has accepted the ceasefire proposal or not.
This comes as recent statistics released by the United Nations Women’s Organization show that nearly 9,000 women have been killed and thousands more injured since the beginning of the war in Gaza.
On the other hand, statistics released afterwards indicated that Lloyd Austin, the US Secretary of Defense, recently announced that Israel has killed more than 25,000 women and children since October 7 and must take further action to protect civilians. However, a few hours after Austin’s remarks, Pentagon spokesperson Sabrina Singh said that the Defense Minister was referring to the estimates of the Gaza Health Ministry and was referring to the total number of Palestinian casualties, not just women and children.
Meanwhile, Charles Michel, the head of the European Council, has announced through a message on his X account that an immediate ceasefire is needed to deliver humanitarian aid to civilians in Gaza.
This comes as Biden, the President of the United States, says he hopes for a ceasefire between Israel and Hamas before the month of Ramadan arrives.
