Armenian Foreign Minister: We should not limit ourselves to signing peace treaty; we can go further
ArmInfo.Negotiations between the Foreign Ministers of Azerbaijan Jeyhun Bayramov and Armenia
Ararat Mirzoyan started today in Almaty.
Before its start, Ararat Mirzoyan noted the symbolism of the
bilateral meeting, since it is taking place in the same building
where the famous Almaty Declaration was signed in 1991. "With the
signing of this document, 11 former Soviet republics recognized that
the former administrative borders between them are now recognized as
the borders of independent states," he recalled.
"It is important to note that over the past two years, both the Prime
Minister of Armenia and the President of Azerbaijan have confirmed
their commitment to the Almaty Declaration several times," Mirzoyan
said. He added that the delimitation process between the two states
should take place on the basis of this document. "Armenia is
committed to peace, to the agreement of a peace treaty," said the RA
Foreign Minister.
"Moreover, we think that we should not limit ourselves to signing a
peace treaty, we can go even further: we can open all transport
communications in the region with the understanding that all
transport infrastructures will remain under the sovereignty of those
countries through territory of which they pass, and procedures
crossing borders in a mutual manner," Ararat Mirzoyan summed up.
