Armenian law enforces reveal illegal migration scheme
As part of a large-scale criminal probe, the Armenian National Security Service (NSS) has resolved an illegal migration scheme.
In the wake of the proceeding, it was found out that a group of individuals collaborated with post-Soviet countries in the Schengen Zone in 2016 to obtain visas for Armenian citizens by submitting false documents and data. Covering up their activities behind the veil of tour operators, the group charged €2,000-€3,000 from visa applicants unaware of their illicit transactions, reports the NSS press service.
The inquest revealed that the scheme also involved officials of special services, who accepted bribes in different amounts to arrange the said citizens’ departure without any hindrance.
Five individuals have been charged over illegal migration and corruption.
The NSS says it is now actively collaborating with the law enforcement bodies of all those countries where the individuals in question had certain links to the transnational crime.
The inquest continues.
