(AP) — Proponents of initiatives aimed at sales taxes, cigarette taxes and medical marijuana submitted petitions Sunday in hopes of getting their proposals on Missouri's November ballot. Petitions submitted Sunday involved two proposed constitutional amendments, one that would prohibit state and local governments from charging sales tax on any services that weren't already taxed as of 2015, and another that would allow the use of marijuana for medical purposes.

The FedEx driver who hit a California Highway Patrol officer early Saturday on Highway 50 in Sacramento was arrested for driving under the influence, officials said. Gregory Anthony Ramirez, 41, of San Lorenzo was arrested and charged with driving under the influence at the time of the collision, the CHP said. Ramirez was booked into the Sacramento County Jail for felony driving under the influence, causing injury and possession of a controlled substance. His bail is set at $50,000.

A worker at the New Jersey convenience store that sold a Powerball ticket worth $429.6 million says he and his colleagues are "amazed" that it happened. Chilel says several store patrons asked him Sunday if he knows who bought the ticket, and several television news crews were at the store asking the same question. Lottery officials in New Jersey say the winning ticket that matched all six numbers in the Powerball drawing worth $429.6 million was sold at a 7-Eleven convenience store in the state's capital city. (AP) — Police say a Fayette County man has been arrested on charges of making an explosive device. Sheriff Steve Kessler says in a news release that deputies with a search warrant seized multiple firearms and a substantial amount of explosive materials Friday night from a home in Hilltop.

Thieves broke into two gun stores early Sunday morning and left without any weapons, Elk Grove police said. MTG Firearms, on Franklin Boulevard, and Laguna Guns and Accessories, on Kausen Drive, were targeted around 6 a.m. Police said the thieves backed a vehicle into the front doors of the shops. They did not steal any guns because the stores locked them away in different locations.
