JOLTS data show more U.S. job-market strength than Fed would prefer

The Energy Information Administration on Wednesday reported that U.S. crude inventories fell by 12.6 million barrels for the week ended Nov. 25. On average, analysts forecasted a decline of 4.4 million barrels, according to a poll conducted by S&P Global Commodity Insights. The EIA also showed weekly inventory increases of 2.8 million barrels for gasoline and 3.5 million barrels for distillates. Shares of companies in the home construction sector took a broad beating Wednesday, in the wake of more weak data on pending home sales. The National Association of Realtors said Wednesday that pending home sales in October fell 4.6% from September, the fifth-straight monthly decline, with year-over-year pending transactions dropping 37.0%. "October was a difficult month for home buyers as they faced 20-year-high mortgage rates," said NAR Chief Economist Lawrence Yun. Shares of Horizon Therapeutics Plc rallied 32.8% in premarket trading on Wednesday, the day after the company confirmed to The Wall Street Journal that it's in early talks to be acquired by Amgen Inc. , Johnson & Johnson , or Sanofi in a deal that could be worth up to $20 billion. Horizon put a news release on Tuesday night confirming the preliminary acquisition discussions with the three companies. Amazon.com Inc. said Wednesday that the latest "Turkey 5" holiday shopping weekend, from Thanksgiving through Cyber Monday, was its biggest ever, with "hundreds of millions" of products purchased over that time. The company said the best-selling categories were home, fashion, toys, beauty and Amazon devices. The best selling items were Echo Dot, Fire TV Stock and Apple Inc.'s Apple AirPods.
