Automatic Data Processing Inc. said Wednesday it was increasing its quarterly dividend by 20.2%, to $1.25 a share from $1.04 a share. The human resources outsourcing company new dividend will be payable Jan. 1 to shareholders of record on Dec. 9. Based on Tuesday's stock closing price of $245.04, the new annual dividend rate of $5.00 a share implies a dividend yield of 2.04%, which compares with the implied yield for the S&P 500 of 1.75%. Phillips 66 said Wednesday it is planning to return $10 billion to $12 billion to shareholders through the end of 2024 through a mix of share buybacks and dividends. In a statement ahead of an investor day, the diversified energy company said its board has added $5 billion to its share buyback program, boosting the total to $20 billion. Shares of Trade Desk Inc. were ahead about 1% in premarket trading Wednesday after the advertising-technology topped expectations with its latest results but delivered a revenue forecast that lagged the consensus view. The company generated net income of $16 million, or 3 cents a share, compared with net income of $59 million, or 12 cents a share, in the year-earlier period. Shares of Hanesbrands Inc. dropped 3.0% in premarket trading Wednesday, after the apparel company, with brands including Hanes and Champion, reported third-quarter profit that topped forecasts but revenue that missed and provided a downbeat outlook, citing a "tougher-than-expected" sales environment. Canopy Growth Corp. shares rose 2.5% in premarket trades after the cannabis company beat its second-quarter revenue target. Canopy Growth's second-quarter loss widened to C$231.9 million, or 47 cents a share, from C$11.06 million, or 3 cents a share, in the year-ago quarter. Chart Industries Inc. said Wednesday it has entered a definitive agreement to acquire privately held Howden, a UK-based provide of air and gas handling products and services, in a cash-and-stock deal valued at $4.4 billion. The deal is expected to close in the first half of 2023 and to create combined revenue of about $3.4 billion. The southern Chinese manufacturing hub Guangzhou is the latest to see lockdowns amid a surge in COVID cases, adding to financial pressure that has disrupted global supply chains and sharply slowed growth in the world's second-largest economy, the Associated Press reported. In conjunction with a layoff announcement Wednesday morning, Meta Platforms Inc. executives offered some tweaks to their financial outlook. Executives now model $94 billion to $100 billion in 2023 expenses, whereas management's prior outlook was for $96 billion to $101 billion.
