Tracing the ghevar honeycomb to its genesis
It’s astounding sometimes, how many stories a disc of corn flour and sugar syrup can have in its crumbs - a tad poetic, but true nonetheless. Given that India borrowed many an architectural idea and word from the Persians, it doesn’t seem far-fetched that the ghevar could have hitched a ride to India from Iran. But don’t let the owners of well-established sweet shops hear one say that, for they almost always dismiss it on the grounds of lack of evidence, and persistence will get one a steely look and pursed lips!
