The FBI reportedly rejected a White House request to debunk stories about alleged communications between Russian operatives and people within President Donald Trump's inner circle, CNN reported on Thursday evening.

Trump administration officials wanted the FBI to disavow the reports and say that there was no contact between people associated with Trump and Russia, the network said, citing multiple US officials familiar with the discussions.

According to one unnamed law-enforcement official... Читать дальше...

Canadian real estate prices have been skyrocketing, leaving a number of questions about affordability. The common assumption is that first-time buyers are deteriorating, but a survey from Mortgage Pros Canada might indicate otherwise. The national mortgage industry association’s chief economist William Dunning prepared a report on the state of the residential mortgage market. It notes that first-time buyers have a record amount of equity in their homes, and apparently... Читать дальше...

Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse thinks his Republican colleague, Lindsey Graham, has been "politically brave" in his approach toward President Donald Trump.

But as he explained in calling Graham a "great guy," Whitehouse, a Rhode Island Democrat, said that attribute is nothing new for the South Carolina senator.

"I think he's been his usual, incredibly politically brave self," Whitehouse said. "A lot of people, as Trump moved forward to becoming the nominee and the president-elect and the president... Читать дальше...

MEXICO CITY (Reuters) - Mexico on Thursday expressed "worry and irritation" about U.S. policies to two of President Donald Trump's top envoys, giving a chilly reply to the new administration's hard line on immigration, trade and security.

The U.S. government this week angered Mexico by saying it was seeking to deport many illegal immigrants to Mexico if they entered the United States from there, regardless of their nationality.

It is the latest point... Читать дальше...

And Republicans, he said, are beginning to take the accusations much more seriously.

Despite what Trump thinks, you're much more likely to be killed by an American than a refugee

BusinessInsider.com

Reuters/Ted Soqui

Statistically, it's President Donald Trump — a native born American male &mdash you should be way more afraid of killing you than a refugee.

Yet, with a twist of irony, Trump's extreme anti-immigration policies are largely founded on a rhetoric that pushes the notion that migrants and refugees are widely "rapists," "drug lords" and "murderers."

Trump's controversial immigration executive order, which was ultimately suspended, sought to halt the resettlement... Читать дальше...

As the law faces possible repeal and replacement by Republicans, a new poll from the Pew Research Center shows that the ACA's popularity is soaring and has hit its highest point since it was passed.

54% of respondents in Pew's survey said they approve of the law, with just 43% disapproving. This is better than the 48% approve, 47% disapprove margin from December 2016. Читать дальше...

Sarah Jacobs

With New York City’s luxury market going sideways, national homebuilder Toll Brothers is playing an increasingly aggressive game of defense.

The company — which slashed prices last year at 400 Park Avenue South and 1110 Park Avenue — is reducing its equity stake in new projects through joint-venture partnerships and offering to pay transfer and mansion taxes for buyers who sign contracts by Feb. 26.

“We are being cautious… We haven’t bought land in New York City in a couple years now... Читать дальше...

Sweden hits back at Trump, defends country's generous immigration policies

BusinessInsider.com

Thomson Reuters

STOCKHOLM (Reuters) - Sweden hit back on Thursday at criticism from U.S. President Donald Trump, defending its generous immigration policies and saying the diversity from thousands of asylum seekers would build a stronger society.

Sweden's image as a safe and stable society has come under close scrutiny in recent days after Trump appeared to refer to an attack there that had not happened and then tweeted that generous immigration policies were not working.

"The next time I hope the president... Читать дальше...

Sean Spicer gave an ominous warning to the marijuana industry

Sean Spicer, President Donald Trump's press secretary, warned the burgeoning US marijuana industry that there will be "greater enforcement" of federal laws.

"I think that's a question for the Department of Justice — I do believe that you'll see greater enforcement of it [marijuana]," Spicer said during Thursday briefing, responding to a question regarding the state-federal conflict of marijuana laws.

There's a growing threat that could kill 10 million people a year by 2050

BusinessInsider.com

Centers for Disease Control and Prevention

  • Antibiotic resistance has become a growing threat around the world, and is expected to kill 10 million people annually by 2050
  • There's a misconception about how resistance develops — it develops in microbes, not individual people, meaning even if you don't use antibiotics you're still susceptible to coming across a drug-resistant bug
  • Nabriva Therapeutics CEO says that because of that confusion, we're ignoring the problem... Читать дальше...

Check out all of the stuff I put in the bed of a Ford Super Duty pickup (F)

BusinessInsider.com

Matthew DeBord/BI

Last year, Ford completely redesigned its exceptionally popular Super Duty pickup for the first time in two decades. I wrote about how that was a big risk for the automaker, but then it occurred to me that although I was familiar with the legendary F-150 pickup, I had never spent any time with a Super Duty.

Ford was then kind enough to let me borrow a 2017 F-250 Super Duty 4x4 Crew Cab Platinum, with a mighty 6.7-liter diesel V8 engine. And a gigantic bed just crying out to be filled. Читать дальше...

It might be time to create an international terrorism court

BusinessInsider.com

The global toll of terrorism is rising at an alarming rate.

According to the Institute for Economics and Peace, terrorist incidents claimed 3,329 lives in 2000 but 32,685 in 2014, and the economic costs of terrorism skyrocketed at least tenfold during the same period.

As a result, certain governments are proposing that the UN establish a new court with a specific remit to prosecute international terrorist crimes.

This would be the first ever court with a remit to try international... Читать дальше...

The new FCC boss has taken his latest shot at today's open-internet laws

The Federal Communications Commission on Thursday voted along party lines to exempt more internet service providers (ISPs) from an enhanced transparency rule that requires them to fully inform customers on any promotional rates, extra fees, and data cap and throttling policies they may apply.

The rule was initially enacted as part of the 2015 Open Internet Order, which more famously set in place the net-neutrality rules that prevent ISPs from giving preferential treatment to certain internet services. Читать дальше...

A startup president named to Forbes' 30 under 30 shares his advice for aspiring entrepreneurs

Michael Hill Kennedy

Michael Kennedy wasn't a well behaved child.

"I was a horrible kid," he said. "I was always breaking the rules."

The recent inductee to Forbes' 30 under 30 list for food and drink told Business Insider that he's still that mischievous kid who doesn't mind breaking some rules and taking risks.

And when he set out to start his own wine business, Component Wine Company, Kennedy was looking to break some of the strict rules that have underpinned the wine industry for the last 100 years. Читать дальше...
