One mom’s Facebook post has gone viral after she shared a permission slip she wrote in order for her sons to be able to climb trees.

Julie Holcombe of Yardley, Pennsylvania, recently wrote on Facebook that her twin sixth-grade sons, Ryan and Patrick, were scolded by a man they didn’t know for climbing trees after school in a field between two of the neighborhood’s schools.

The man allegedly threatened to tell the boys’ principal if he caught them climbing the trees again. Читать дальше...

Iran's oil production is making a big comeback

BusinessInsider.com

Raheb Homavandi/Reuters

Market data from Reuters shows that Iranian crude oil exports in April reached 2.3 million barrels per day, exceeding forecasts, while May exports are expected to be around 2.1 million barrels per day—or almost 60 percent higher than a year ago.

In May last year, by way of comparison, Iran was exporting about 1.3 million bpd, according to Reuters.

Logistics were holding up Iranian exports, with tankers being a key problem and indications now that this has been partially resolved. Читать дальше...

Japan just logged its largest trade surplus in 6 years

Japan recorded its largest trade surplus since March 2010 in April, rising to 823.5 billion yen from 755 billion yen in March.

It was the the third trade surplus recorded in a row, the longest consecutive stretch since late 2010, and was well ahead of forecasts for a narrowing to 492.8 billion yen.

Though the nation is now regularly recording trade surpluses — something it failed to achieve once between July 2012 through to February 2015 — it was largely driven... Читать дальше...

Nigeria is headed for a 'full-blown economic crisis'

BusinessInsider.com

Akintunde Akinleye/Reuters

Nigeria's economic crisis is getting worse.

On Friday, the Nigerian Bureau of Statistics revealed that the economy shrank by 0.4% in the first quarter year-over-year — which was way worse than expected.

Economists were expecting the country to grow by 1.8% year-over-year, according to the Bloomberg consensus.

And now, analysts aren't feeling too good about the situation going forward.

"We have long warned of a slow-burning crisis in Nigeria. Читать дальше...

Russia is freaking out about China's slowdown

BusinessInsider.com

REUTERS/Kirill Kudryavtsev/Pool

Russia’s economy has been shrinking five quarters in a row, though in the first quarter of 2016, it contracted at an annual rate of “only” 1.2%, after having contracted 3.7% in 2015, the longest recession in two decades. The budget deficit has swollen to 8.6% of GDP in April – way beyond the 3% the government is projecting for the year. It might require additional and unpopular budget cuts.

So the jump in oil prices recently, while not nearly enough... Читать дальше...

Here's why Uber is getting killed in China

BusinessInsider.com

Simon Song

The transportation war has become increasingly brutal in China, with Uber playing catch up since its launch there in 2013.

Uber logged only 1 million daily rides in China in 2015. Didi Chuxing said it handles more than 11 million rides a day.

The San Francisco-based ride-hailing company is burning $1 billion a year to compete against its No. 1 rival, Didi Chuxing (formerly Didi Kuaidi).

To put that number into perspective, $1 billion is about how much Uber... Читать дальше...

BusinessInsider.com

Goldman Sachs doesn't find stocks appealing anymore.

In a note Tuesday, the firm downgraded equities to "Neutral" over the next year.

"Until we see sustained earnings growth, equities do not look attractive, especially on a risk-adjusted basis," wrote Christian Mueller-Glissmann, an equity strategist.

"We expect particularly poor returns in dollar terms, with our forecast of a stronger dollar and the prospect of less negative equity/FX correlations."

10 things every politician who endorses Donald Trump should be forced to defend

BusinessInsider.com

Joe Raedle/Getty Images

In the two weeks since the Republican National Committee declared Donald Trump the party’s presumptive presidential nominee, Republican politicians have rallied around him.

They’re betting, in the words of RNC Chairman Reince Priebus, that “people just don’t care” about Trump’s treatment of women or his other flaws.

That’s a nice way of saying that the party itself doesn’t care, as long as Trump does well in the polls. But Trump’s flaws aren’t ordinary. Читать дальше...

Mexico has approved 'El Chapo' Guzmán's extradition, but he could still delay it for years

BusinessInsider.com

Reuters

On Friday, the Mexican Foreign Ministry announced that it had approved the extradition of jailed drug lord Joaquín “El Chapo” Guzmán to the US to face charges including drug trafficking, homicide, and money laundering in Texas and California.

Coming after two rulings by two Mexican judges, the ministry’s decision effectively clears the way for Guzmán’s transport to a US courtroom. But, as US experts and Guzmán’s own lawyers have said, the kingpin still has means to fight his transfer. Читать дальше...

Venezuela owes Indian drug companies millions — and they've come up with a surprising plan to get paid

BusinessInsider.com

REUTERS/Carlos Garcia Rawlins

Venezuela can’t pay its millions of dollars in debt to Indian pharmaceutical companies, say Indian officials, so officials are considering a proposal that would see the Latin American company swap oil for its drug debts.

After an unlucky gamble on India’s part that Venezuela’s emerging economy would be a good place to hawk Indian pharmaceuticals, the debt is now mounting and poor crisis management coupled with the long-running oil price slump has left Venezuela too cash strapped to pay up. Читать дальше...

The housing crisis is great news for America

BusinessInsider.com

François Philipp/Flickr

There's a part of the new housing crisis that tells us good news about the US economy.

Right now, inventory levels are not enough to service potential homebuyers in many markets.

This imbalance has contributed to a rise in home prices that is locking many out of homeownership. San Francisco is probably the poster child of this problem.

But the demand side of the equation is reason to remain bullish on the outlook for the housing market.

Chipotle is facing a crisis that has nothing to do with E. coli

BusinessInsider.com

Facebook/Chipotle

People are getting tired of Chipotle's menu, and that could be an even bigger problem for the company than its recent E. coli crisis.

The burrito chain's sales have plunged following the E. coli scare that affected restaurants in 14 states.

The outbreak was declared over in February, but same-store sales — or sales at stores open at least a year — continue to fall.

Same-store sales dropped 26.1% in February, following a 36.4% decline in the prior month. Читать дальше...

BusinessInsider.com

NORTHERN SYRIA (AP) — On a secret trip to Syria, the new commander of U.S. forces in the Middle East said he felt a moral obligation to enter a war zone to check on his troops and make his own assessment of progress in organizing local Arab and Kurd fighters for what has been a slow campaign to push the Islamic State group out of Syria.

In addition to announcing which shows have met their end, the networks presented their new series for the 2016-2017 seasons this week in an annual event known as upfronts. At upfronts, the networks put on a glitzy show for advertisers and spin a web of statistics in order to entice companies to spend their commercial dollars.

Thomson Reuters

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Quarrels have broken out behind the scenes of Anthem Inc's proposed acquisition of Cigna Corp , as the health insurers seek regulatory approval for their landmark deal, the Wall Street Journal reported on Sunday.

The newspaper said the squabbles could delay or derail antitrust approvals, though the deal does not appear to be in danger of imminent collapse.

Sources familiar with the matter confirmed the citations in the Journal story.

Mark Cuban thinks stocks could collapse into a bear market if Donald Trump becomes US president.

The investor and reality-TV star told CNN on Monday that stocks could fall 20% if the presumptive Republican nominee wins in November.

He said investors would not be able to put up with the uncertainty attached to a Trump presidency.

This startup worker came up with a great way to tune out of conference calls

BusinessInsider.com

NBC

Conference calls can drone on if you're not the one doing the talking — but most people can't afford to tune out in case they miss something.

Based in Shanghai, Josh Newlan often finds himself on his own fair share of calls, often at odd hours of the day because of the time zones too, according to a report in CNN Money.

So, the program manager at Splunk came up with a small program called "Say What?" to do the paying attention for him.

While Newlan is on the call... Читать дальше...
