Here's the reality: if you want to sign up for cable TV today, you'll likely end up saddled with monthly rent payments on a cable box.

As Federal Communications Commission chairman Tom Wheeler pointed out in a Re/code op-ed Wednesday, American consumers spend $20 billion a year to lease these devices. Which cities do travelers love to visit the most? 

Euromonitor International recently released its Top City Destinations Ranking, which selects the top 100 cities in the world based in terms of international tourist arrivals in 2014. 

Of the top 20, Asia dominated the list, with three different destinations coming from Thailand alone.

The most-visited destinations also included cities in the US, Europe, and the Middle East.

Uber is cutting rates for its popular Uber X and Uber XL services in New York City, which go into effect Friday morning.

The news was first reported by The New York Post and confirmed by Uber.

Uber X and Uber XL are the company's budget car services that send an "everyday car" to pick you up from your location and drop you off at your destination; Uber X offers sedan cars, while Uber XL offers bigger SUVs for larger groups.

Wages are still growing for US workers. 

The employment cost index rose as expected in the fourth quarter, with wages increasing 0.6%. 

Expectations were for the latest employment cost index to show an 0.6% in costs during the fourth quarter. 

The ECI report is a more comprehensive measure of wage growth than the average hourly earnings figure released with the monthly jobs report as it takes into account benefits in addition to wages and salaries.

Consumers are still driving the US economy.

The advance estimate of gross domestic product (GDP) for the fourth quarter was 0.7%, versus the forecast for 0.8%.  

The data from the Commerce Department out Friday also showed that consumer spending rose 3.1% in 2015, the most in 10 years.

Consumer spending makes up more than two-thirds of GDP, and so this indicates that consumers were still in the front seat of economic growth even though it slowed late last year. Читать дальше...

Adidas looks to be strengthening its commitment to football with reports of a new kit deal with Real Madrid that would eclipse Manchester United’s historic £750m contract.

According to reports in Spanish newspaper Marca, the German sports brand has agreed a ten year kit deal at €140m per year (£106m) with the La Liga giants.

On Friday morning we get four big pieces of economic data to close out January, headlined by the first estimate of fourth quarter GDP due out at 8:30 a.m. ET.

Reddit gets about 8 billion pages views a month, but the site's CEO Steve Huffman thinks the time is right for "big" changes.

The "front page of the internet" is considering overhauling its homepage and changing the content new users are shown by default.

"This year will see a lot of changes on Reddit," Huffman wrote on Reddit on Thursday. "Recently we built an A/B testing system, which allows us to test changes to individual features scientifically, and we are excited to put it through its paces.
