Six more children in the Central African Republic (CAR) have accused European soldiers of sex abuse, the United Nations said on Friday, with one official saying such abuse was "rampant" there.

The European Union, Georgia, France and another unnamed European country are investigating the alleged crimes, including rapes, mostly committed in 2014 in or near a camp for displaced people next to the airport at Bangui, CAR's capital.

BusinessInsider.com

UNclimatechange/flickr

You may think asking a job candidate whether they have kids is a totally innocuous icebreaker, but it's one of many topics best left alone during a job interview.

While very few specific interview questions are by themselves illegal to ask, Laura Davis, an associate professor with the Department of Finance and Legal Studies at Bloomsburg University of Pennsylvania, explains in the Journal of Employment and Labor Law that some questions may be used as evidence of discrimination and... (Reuters) - Nissan Motor Co said Friday it will recall about 870,000 Nissan cars in the United States and Canada for potentially faulty hood latches, marking the third time since 2014 the automaker has recalled vehicles to address the problem.

The Japanese automaker said it is recalling the 2013-2015 Nissan Altima, because its secondary hood latch may bind on account of improperly applied rust coating and remain in the unlatched position when the hood is closed.

What I learned delivering newspapers to rich people

BusinessInsider.com

I've found that it's very similar in life and business.

From this experience with rich people, I learned several valuable lessons to take me from a poor paperboy to being a multi-millionaire.

Here are the lessons I've learned that you can apply in your... Читать дальше...

Apple is the only big tech company complaining about the global economy (AAPL, FB, AMZN)

BusinessInsider.com

Ueslei Marcelino/Reuters

This week was huge for tech company earnings.

Amazon, Facebook, and Apple all reported highly-anticipated quarterly results.

The results were mixed, with both Apple and Amazon disappointing compared to expectations.

Facebook, meanwhile, crushed estimates and its stock rocketed to an all-time.

The most interesting part, however, wasn't just the numbers but what each companies' executives had to say on their respective earnings calls.

The scientist behind the most comprehensive study of brain training says apps like Lumosity are based on shaky science

BusinessInsider.com

Companies like Lumosity have been wildly successful in selling online games that they claim will keep your brain sharp and stave off mental decline as you age.

But no longer — the Federal Trade Commission has cracked down on Lumosity, which agreed to pay a $2 million settlement earlier this month.

"Lumosity preyed on consumers' fears about age-related cognitive decline, suggesting their games could stave off memory loss, dementia, and even Alzheimer's disease," Jessica Rich... Читать дальше...

Not to alarm you — and please don't call your wealth manager immediately after reading this — but the entire world is going to cash.

Bank of America Merrill Lynch (BAML) sent around a report tracking global fund flows, and since the second half of last year, cash has been the most popular asset in the world.

Over that period, about $7 billion went into the stock market. Fixed-income funds saw $46 billion in outflows, which BAML thinks is mostly due to redemptions from the credit markets... Читать дальше...

A economist explains why women over 50 can't find jobs

BusinessInsider.com

Brian Snyder/Reuters

Editor's Note: If you're a woman over the age of 50, finding work has statistically gotten harder since 2008.

The Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis recently published a study that showed that half of the long-term unemployed are now women over 50. So what's going on?

Economics correspondent Paul Solman sat down with Teresa Ghilarducci, a labor economist and the author of the new book, "How to Retire with Enough Money," to talk about how age discrimination... Читать дальше...

Stephen Colbert throws his own debate with dueling Donald Trumps

"With zero Trump in tonight's debate, there are now 24 million viewers up for grabs and I am grabbing them," Colbert declares. "If Fox News has no Trump, then I am all Trump."

Breastfeeding more babies for longer could save the global economy $300 billion annually

BusinessInsider.com

Reuters

Breastfeeding more babies for longer could save the global economy some $300 billion in a single year, simply by yielding smarter and higher-earning offspring, researchers said Friday.

It would also prevent more than 800,000 child deaths, and about 20,000 breast cancer deaths every year.

"Breastfeeding saves lives and money in all countries, rich and poor alike," said Cesar Victora from the Federal University of Pelotas in Brazil, one of the authors of a research series published by The Lancet medical journal. Читать дальше...

The terrifying ways doctors used to treat infections before antibiotics

BusinessInsider.com

Wellcome Library, London

The development of antibiotics and other antimicrobial therapies is arguably the greatest achievement of modern medicine.

However, overuse and misuse of antimicrobial therapy predictably leads to resistance in microorganisms.

Antibiotic-resistant bacteria such as methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA), vancomycin-resistant Enterococcus species (VRE) and carbapenem-resistant Enterobacteriaceae (CRE) have emerged.

Certain CRE species are resistant to multiple antibiotics... Читать дальше...
