(Reuters) - The U.S. consulate in Istanbul said on Tuesday it had canceled consular services for Wednesday due to "information about a possible security threat" against the mission.

"We strongly encourage U.S. citizens to maintain a high level of vigilance, be aware of local events, and take the appropriate steps to bolster your personal security," the consulate added in a statement on its website.

Property magnate Donald Trump fired a not-so-subtle warning shot at the national Republicans attacking him on Tuesday.

The Republican presidential front-runner did this by touting a poll showing that his supporters would still back him if he ran as an independent.
