Minister of Health: process of introducing comprehensive health insurance continues at high pace
ArmInfo. The process of introducing a comprehensive health insurance system continues at a high pace, both in terms of calculations, packages, and the
institutions being formed. Armenian Health Minister Anahit Avanesyan
told journalists during a briefing on May 23. "Of course,
discussions on such a major reform may deviate from the deadlines.
And now our partners are carrying out additional specific
calculations," she noted.
At the same time, the minister found it difficult to talk about
specific deadlines for the implementation of the first stage of the
reform to introduce the health insurance system, emphasizing that
this is a major legislative act that will still have to be discussed
in the National Assembly.
In November 2023, Minister of Health of Armenia Anahit Avanesyan, at
a hearing in the committees of the National Assembly of the Republic
of Armenia, announced that the start of a comprehensive health
insurance system will be given in mid-2024, 18 billion drams will be
allocated for these purposes.
It was previously reported that the system will be fully operational
in 2027. It is planned that in 2024 the majority of beneficiaries
will become its participants, pensioners will join it in 2025, and
participants in the voluntary health insurance system in 2026. The RA
government will also take part in the process of accumulating funds
together with citizens. For these purposes, a Fund will be
established that will manage the funds of the beneficiaries. A
Council will be formed under the Fund, headed by the RA Minister of
Health.
