Minister of Environment Hakob Semidyan stated on May 22 during government hour in the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia.
He said that as of May 22, the level of Lake Sevan was 5 cm higher
than in the same period last year. Semidyan emphasized that until
now water from Sevan has not been released for irrigation purposes.
Last year they started doing this on May 14th. "The year is extremely
favorable for Sevan and for water resources in general. In five large
reservoirs we have 269 million cubic meters more water than last
year. We hope that, as part of the efficient use of water, we will
maintain reserves for next year ", said the minister.
He expressed hope that this year it will not be necessary to exceed
the established limit of water intake from Sevan of 170 million cubic
meters.
