Members of Yerevan Council of Elders not to combine jobs
ArmInfo. The ban on combining positions in the councils of elders of Armenian communities with
positions in the public service system will also be extended to members of the council of elders of Yerevan. At the plenary session on May 21, the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia introduced amendments to the law "On Public Service" and a package of related laws.
As Deputy Minister of Justice of the Republic of Armenia Karen
Karapetyan noted in his speech, currently this ban applies to members
of the councils of elders of local self-government bodies, but does
not apply to members of the council of elders of the capital of
Armenia. For this reason, it is proposed to extend this provision to
members of the Council of Elders of Yerevan, who, using a loophole in
the current legislation, combine their work in the capital council
with work in the public and civil service system. Following the
results of the next elections to the Council of Elders of Yerevan,
this requirement will begin to apply. However, during the transition
period, members of the capital's council of elders will be able to
combine this work until the first day of the meeting of the council
of the new convocation.
