Armenia`s lawyers start protests
ArmInfo. On May 21, 2024, lawyers in Armenia begin protests. This is stated in the message of the RA Chamber of Lawyers.
According to the source, public defenders will not provide services
in the RA state bodies, including in the courts and in the
preliminary investigation bodies. They demand that amendments to the
Tax Code of the Republic of Armenia be returned for revision,
protesting against the initiative proposed by the Government of the
Republic of Armenia to limit the opportunities for engaging in
notarial, lawyering and organizing lotteries in the turnover tax
system.
At the plenary session of the National Assembly of the Republic of
Armenia, which starts on May 21, it is planned to discuss the draft
law on introducing amendments and additions to the Tax Code of the
Republic of Armenia. These amendments were approved by the RA
National Assembly Committee on Economic Affairs. According to the
initiative, from October 2024, the turnover tax rates established for
main activities will be revised, with the possibility of reducing the
tax payable through documented expenses. In particular, for
entrepreneurs in the field of trading activities it is proposed to
set a 10% turnover tax rate instead of the current 5%, for public
catering - to set 12% instead of 6%, for representatives of
production activities - 7% instead of 3.5%, for other types
activities - 10% versus existing 5%. In addition, it is proposed to
narrow the scope of beneficiaries of the microenterprise system.
In particular, from 2025 it is recommended to limit the ability to
engage in notarial, lawyer's activities and organization of lotteries
in the turnover tax system, in the micro-enterprise tax system, the
activities of taxpayers engaged in the purchase and sale and/or
rental of real estate, hairdressing services, body care, car
maintenance services, software development and construction work,
real estate assessment and measurement, activities for the
organization of baths and saunas.
