Supernatural: Every Celebrity Cameo & Guest Appearance
Supernatural is known for its terrifying villains and brotherly squabbles, but the series has also seen a host of celebrity cameos and special guests.
Did you spot all of these Supernatural special appearances and celebrity cameos? The adventures of Sam and Dean Winchester are destined to soon come to an end, with the final, fifteenth season currently on hiatus due to the coronavirus pandemic. When Supernatural does return, however, fans will only have a precious few episodes to say goodbye to the Winchesters forever. Or at least until the sequel series.
Supernatural has enjoyed an impressively long run on The CW, especially for a fantasy series, and has lasted far longer than anyone involved at the very beginning thought it might. Nevertheless, Supernatural's popularity remains strong in 2020 and the Winchesters have carved out a television legacy that will endure for years to come. With Sam and Dean's cultural impact strengthening with each passing season, it's no surprise that Supernatural has attracted a number of notable cameos over the years, as well as some guest appearances from famous acting names. Excluding names who found fame after Supernatural and jobbing character actors whose roles primarily consist of one-off TV appearances, here are the celebrities who briefly joined the Winchesters.
Linda Blair (Season 2 - "The Usual Suspects") - Best known for her demonic role as Regan in The Exorcist, Linda Blair guest stars in season 2 as a detective investigating a double homicide. She ultimately helps the Winchesters take down a vengeful ghost, with Sam and Dean dropping Exorcist references throughout. Later Supernatural seasons would feature many other horror movie stars in small roles, but these lack the self-awareness and immediate recognition of Blair's episode.
Barry Bostwick (Season 4 - "Criss Angel Is A Douchebag") - Bostwick portrayed an old magician named Jay in season 4, resorting to deadly lengths to cling on to his washed up career. Bostwick's appearance is notable due to the actor's iconic role as Brad in the Rocky Horror Picture Show movie.
Paris Hilton (Season 5 - "Fallen Idols") - In her memorable Supernatural cameo, Hilton plays a combination of herself and the pagan god Leshi, who takes on numerous forms in order to kill and feed upon its followers. Interestingly, the same episode takes the Winchesters to a wax museum in a nod to horror remake House of Wax, which Padalecki and Hilton starred in together.
Robert Englund (Season 6 - "Appointment In Samarra") - Freddie Kruger himself, Robert Englund, appears in season 6 as Dr. Robert, an old friend of John Winchester's who temporarily kills Dean at his own request in order to contact Death. It's surely no coincidence that the horror icon's small role in Supernatural is to send Dean to meet death. Kruger would be proud.
James Marsters & Charisma Carpenter (Season 7 - "Shut Up, Dr. Phil") - Buffy The Vampire Slayer's James Marsters and Charisma Carpenter appear together in "Shut Up, Dr. Phil." The episode is based on the marital disputes of a powerful witch couple, with the Winchesters stuck in the middle playing referee. Supernatural includes a host of other Buffy alumni, but Marsters and Carpenter's joint appearances are the only ones billed as "special guest stars."
Snooki (Season 9 - "Blade Runners") - Similarly to Paris Hilton, Jersey Shore star Snooki plays a (hopefully) exaggerated version of herself in Supernatural. The reality TV personality appears as the vessel of a crossroads demon, trapped by Sam and Dean in order to find out Crowley's whereabouts. Once they get their answers, Sam exorcises her.
The Miz (Season 11 - "Beyond The Mat") - As implied by the title, Supernatural season 11's "Beyond The Mat" revolves around the world of professional wrestling, much to Dean's delight. WWE's The Miz stars as up-and-coming wrestler Shawn Harley, who is later killed after refusing to work for a crossroads demon. And they say The Undertaker is a tough opponent.
Dee Wallace (Season 11 - "Into The Mystic") - In her Supernatural guest appearance, Dee Wallace plays Mildred Baker, a resident of a retirement home who ultimately helps the brothers identify a banshee. Wallace became known as a horror "scream queen" after a string of genre roles. Although Supernatural has featured other horror movie stars over the years, Wallace's credits put her closer to the status of Blair and Englund.
Supernatural season 15 is currently on hiatus.
