A new study shows that letting convicted crack cocaine dealers out of prison early had little impact on the likelihood they would commit new crimes.  Wednesday's report from  the U.S. Sentencing Commission found "no difference in the recidivism rates for offenders who were released early ... and offenders who had served their full sentences."  Recidivism is the likelihood that a person would commit new crimes after prison.   Over a three-year period, both groups showed similar recidivism patterns. GARY, Ind. (AP) — A judge has set a $200,000 bond for a northwestern Indiana mother who faces neglect charges after her two young children died in an apartment building fire. Thirty-three-year-old Kristen Gober of Gary had been jailed without bond before appearing in a Lake County court Wednesday on two counts of child neglect causing death and other charges. FAIRCHANCE, Pa. (AP) — A woman has been sentenced to 18 to 40 years in prison in the shooting death of her husband last year in their western Pennsylvania home. The (Uniontown) Herald-Standard reports that 49-year-old Suzanne Marie Bricker pleaded guilty Wednesday afternoon to third-degree murder in Fayette County Court. State police said she called 911 early on Sept. 23 reporting that she had shot herself and her husband. Fifty-one-year-old Steve Bricker died of a gunshot wound to the chest. WILDWOOD, Mo. (AP) — St. Louis County Police say a 38-year-old man has been arrested in the weekend shooting death of another man in the St. Louis suburb of Wildwood. Police say Brian Rasdall, of Labadie, was charged Wednesday with second-degree murder and two weapons counts in the Saturday shooting death of 27-year-old Christopher Austin, of St. Clair. PHOENIX (AP) — Federal agents acting on a tip went to a Phoenix house where they found and detained 34 immigrants believed to have entered the United States, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement officials said Wednesday.
