The Nationalist Party has asked the State energy provider to investigate possible electricity theft at one of its party clubs.
A letter sent from PN general secretary Rosette Thake to Enemalta chairman Frederick Azzopardi, seen by this newspaper, has urged the corporation to investigate energy consumption at its Marsaxlokk club, following a confidential tip off.
The club, on Triq Żejtun, is believed to have been benefiting from cheaper utility bills after its meter was tampered to give false readings.
Contacted this morning, Ms Thake confirmed that the PN had received confidential information about irregular energy consumption at the Marsaxlokk club and that the club had passed this information to the authorities.
“On receiving the information we immediately contacted the authorities to investigate," she said.
In the letter, Ms Thake calls on Mr Azzopardi to take all steps to investigate the allegations, “and to take all measures available at law if the allegations are proved accurate”.
Asked if the police had been informed of the situation, Ms Thake said that, in such cases, the practice was to inform Enemalta which would decide whether or not to inform he authorities.
