WSC to invest in latest sewage treatment technology

As part of its Net Zero Impact Utility project, the Water Services Corporation is set to invest an initial €4 million in the latest sewage treatment technology. The technology allows for easy retrofitting of existing plants which will result in better treatment performance and in a significant reduction in associated smell and chemical and energy use. 'Talk to the police,' concerned citizen is told after reporting dangling AC unit

A pedestrian who contacted the Occupational Health and Safety Authority to warn them about an air conditioning unit dangling precariously over a pavement in Marsa has seen his attempt to help rebuffed. The concerned citizen emailed the authority on Monday and alerted them to the rusty old AC unit outside an abandoned building in Marsa. He copied Times of Malta in on the email. Chile asks Vatican for info on sex abuse cases, steps up raids

The Chilean government asked the Vatican on Tuesday to hand over documents related to accusations of sex abuse committed by clergy in Chile against minors, as local prosecutors stepped up raids of Roman Catholic Church offices in Santiago. Chilean prosecutors said in a statement that the Chilean foreign ministry, through its embassy in Italy, had requested from the Vatican information relating to nine clergy members accused of abuse. St Julian statue returns to its former glory

The titular statue of St Julian, now back to its former glory after a 10-month restoration project, on Monday was returned to the original parish church exactly 125 years to the day since it was first delivered in 1893. Ensure dignified housing for all, NGOs insist after migrant evictions

NGOs have called on the government to fulfil its “legal and moral responsibility” and ensure access to dignified housing for all, after a raid on an Qormi farm that left some 80 African migrants homeless.Planning Authority enforcement officials on Monday shut down a farm which had housed more than a hundred migrants, many paying around €100 a month, in inhumane conditions. Watch: Delicate operation to refloat tanker nears conclusion

A delicate operation to refloat a small tanker that has been grounded on Qawra Point since February is entering its final stages. The 885-tonne Hephaestus was thrown onto the rocks at Fra Ben in a vicious storm on February 10. The crew managed to disembark safely and no significant pollution was caused since the vessel was empty. The ship has since become something of an attraction for visitors.  The operation to refloat it, being carried out by Cassar Ship Repair, started in May with a detailed assessment of the vessel. BOV share price moves back to its multi-year low

The MSE Equity Price Index trended higher for the first time in four days as it rebounded by 0.46% to 4,306.374 points on Tuesday. Today’s gain was due to the uplift in the share price of IHI which outweighed the declines in BOV and Trident. Meanwhile, a further four shares closed the day unchanged. Eurozone beats slowdown expectations but industry brakes

Eurozone growth was better than expected in the second quarter, flash estimates showed on Tuesday, in a sign that the negative effects of global trade tensions might be seen only later in the year. A 42-year-old man from Birkirkara was seriously injured on Tuesday morning when he was hit by a car in Old College Street, St Julian's. The police said the car, a Renault Clio, was being driven by a 31-year-old South African man resident in St Venera. The victim is receiving hospital treatment.

The reception area at Karin Grech Hospital has been given a €90,000 refurbishment. Steward Health Care Malta said it had installed air-conditioning, new flooring and automatic doors in the area.
