Ayvazovsky exhibition draws over 235 to gallery in Moscow
Over 235 people attended a Moscow exhibition dedicated to the 200th anniversary of the world- famous Armenian marine painter, Hovhannes (Ivan) Ayvazovsky.
According to Gazeta.ru, the exhibition, held at the Tretyakov Gallery, featured 300 canvases and nine graphic paintings by the artist. A special exhibit was "On the Cost of Caucasus", a restored canvas which had never before been shown to public.
The Gallery has a special documentary department which keeps archive records. and portraits and photos of Ayvazovsky’s relatives. Also, the Central Naval Museum provided to the gallery special telescopes, ship models and ship wheels to re-establish the real-time atmosphere of Ayvazovsky’s workshop.
The exhibition will run through November 20.
