2015 not end to pan-national campaign – Genocide museum director
The Director of the Armenian Genocide Museum-Institute on Friday announced a plan of organizing an exceptional exhibition as part of the continuing pan-national efforts towards achieving the big tragedy’s recognition and condemnation.
“What we want to demonstrate is that 2015 [100th anniversary of genocide] does not mark the beginning or end of anything,” Hayk Demoyan told reporters, adding that they periodically hold public events to keep the topic under spotlight.
“The key outcome is the permanent display of items at the museum. I can say, without extra modesty, that it receives a high appreciation by both foreign and local museums. Despite the decreasing number of tourist, the flow was quite active,” he said, adding that Turkish visitors’ dynamics also was absolutely stable.
Demoyan added that they started technically replenishing the museum with modern equipment in 2015. “It has a unique design solutions. It was a step forward in Armenian museum displays. It is really encouraging that it receives only a positive reaction.”
Demoyan said they have also initiated an Armenian Genocide encyclopedia. “A landmark moment for us is the publication of an English language periodical which has been internationally registered.
The upcoming exhibition will be held at the museum’s temporary exhibition hall, the museum’s director added. “We have for so many years been preparing for this display,” he said.
"My great desire is that this exhibition take place on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of Armenia’s independence. I began collecting exhibits 5-6 years ago. It is going to be an exceptional exhibition because we’ll see unique exhibits displaying Armenian patriotism. Most of them are original,” he said.
