Armenian authorities intimidate peaceful protesters – Heritage party
The opposition Heritage party has condemned the recent incidents in Yerevan, describing the police actions against peaceful protesters as a blatant violation of human rights and fundamental freedom.
“The ruling regime physically degraded, intimidated and detained hundreds of citizens, including journalists, for exercising their constitutional right to peaceful assembly,” reads a statement issued earlier today.
The party’s deputy leader, Armen Martirosyan, and several active members were taken to police stations in the wake of the late Friday night clashes that followed a peaceful rally.
In their statement, the Heritage members also highlight respect for human rights and civil liberties as key cornerstones towards promoting a dialogue and paving way to justice.
