FACT FOCUS: Trump distorts use of 'deadly force' language in FBI document for Mar-a-Lago search
Former President Donald Trump has pointed to standard language used in an FBI document unsealed Tuesday to baselessly claim the Biden administration wanted to kill him during a search for documents at his Mar-a-Lago estate in 2022. A Trump campaign fundraising email with the subject line, “They were authorized to shoot me!” was sent soon after he posted about the document on social media, making even more serious claims. But the language Trump referred to is a standard force-limiting policy statement used for issuing search warrants and is not unique to the FBI’s search of his property. Trump was not at Mara-a-Lago at the time of the search and his security detail had been notified it would take place.
