Eurovision Song Contest reaches its final with tensions around Israel and doubt over Dutch contender
The grand final of the Eurovision Song Contest is taking place Saturday in the Swedish city of Malmo. Acts from more than two dozen countries are competing for the continent's pop crown. Croatia and Switzerland are among those tipped to take the trophy at an event famed for its campy, kitschy ethos and passion for pop. But the contest has been overshadowed by a political storm over the participation of Israel. The event has attracted large protests from Palestinians and their supporters, who say Israel should be excluded because of its conduct of the war against Hamas. Thousands are expected to march through Malmo hours before the final.
