COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) — A Marine recruit committed suicide in March amid a widespread culture of hazing and abuse in his battalion at Parris Island that could lead to punishments for as many as 20 officers and enlisted leaders, the Marine Corps said Thursday. Because he didn't follow proper procedure, the recruit was forced to run back and forth in his barracks, the report said. Shapiro is a convicted Ponzi scheme operator whose improper actions with recruits, athletes and staffers prompted the NCAA to strip Miami of football scholarships and put its athletics department on probation.

According to the Guinness website, the tallest bovine ever was Blosom, a cow from Orangeville, Illinois, that measured 6 feet, 2 inches. Caring for the giant steer can be a challenge, said Amanda Auston of the Sequoia Park Zoo, adding that Danniel eats about 50 pounds of hay every day and produces up to 150 pounds of dung a day.
