ATLANTA (AP) — A police officer in a small, central Georgia city has been shot and killed by a suspect who remains on the loose, authorities said Sunday. Eastman Patrol Officer Tim Smith was fatally shot about 9:30 p.m. Saturday in a residential area of the city located about 60 miles southeast of Macon, Georgia Bureau of Investigations spokesman Scott Dutton said. Smith, 31, was responding to a suspicious person call when he encountered Royheem Delshawn Deeds, exited his patrol car and was shot, Dutton said.

PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Police say a 16-year-old youth sitting in a car in northeast Philadelphia was shot in the back and killed. A police spokeswoman said the shooting was reported just before 2 p.m. Sunday in Kensington. Police said the youth was taken by police to Temple Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead before 2:30 p.m. Sunday. Police said no weapon was recovered and no arrests were immediately made.

MILWAUKEE (AP) — Milwaukee mayor says 4 officers were injured in a violent protest and have been treated and released from a hospital.

The National Park Service says in a statement the monument opened briefly Sunday morning before the elevator got stuck at the 490 feet level. The park service says that was caused by computer issues associated with the elevator's control system.

(AP) — A New Jersey man died and at least two other people were treated for injuries after an apparent lightning strike at an eastern Pennsylvania lake, authorities said. Terry Brady, spokesman for the Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources, said a preliminary investigation indicates that he managed to get out of the water but became unresponsive in the beach area.
