Baton Rouge police say 2 officers, 1 suspect shot (AP) — A Baton Rouge neighborhood was awakened before dawn Saturday by a barrage of gunfire, with police saying two officers were wounded as they traded shots with a man they had been chasing. East Baton Rouge Parish District Attorney Hillar Moore said a bullet grazed the head of one officer; the other officer was hit in the stomach but protected by his bulletproof vest. (AP) — Police were searching Saturday for a man who they say fatally shot one college student and left two others seriously wounded at a party in Daytona Beach. According to a police report, Postell opened fire during a fight at the Indigo Lake Golf Club, killing 23-year-old Bethune-Cookman University student Don'Kevious Johnson. In a statement, Bethune-Cookman said it is providing grief counselors and support services to students in need.

"Information gathered by detectives reveal the two girls were very close friends, appeared to also be in a relationship," police spokeswoman Tracey Breeden said. Police say nobody witnessed the shooting, but the incident initially caused widespread panic among parents who could not reach their children, and the school was put on lockdown. Hundreds of worried parents crowded the parking lots of nearby discount and convenience stores awaiting information about their children.

Richard Reineccius, a pioneer of the Bay Area’s midsize theater scene and San Francisco’s neighborhood arts programs, died at Oakland’s Altenheim Senior Housing center Feb. 5, just 11 days before what would have been his 79th birthday. TEXARKANA, Texas (AP) — Dallas billionaire Ross Perot (puh-ROH') has helped dedicate a museum in his name at the East Texas college he once attended. The 85-year-old Perot visited Texarkana College on Friday to dedicate the Ross Perot Leadership Museum. School officials say Perot's support helped spark a $22 million fundraising effort.

The California Highway Patrol says an officer patrolling the bridge on bicycle was flagged down Friday by a man who had been hit in the leg. The CHP says it has opened an investigation and that officers are looking for surveillance video of the attacks.
