Brett Anderson sticks in A’s rotation; Mengden to stay in minors, for now
Brett Anderson will remain in Oakland’s rotation, as expected, coming out of the break. The left-hander will start Monday at Texas, with Frankie Montas the likely choice Tuesday.
That means that Daniel Mengden, who was the A’s best starter in May with a 1.51 ERA,, will remain at Triple-A Nashville for the time being. Mengden threw seven innings for the Sounds on Thursday and allowed five hits, a walk and two runs while striking out two in his first start back off the DL.
“It’s nice we’re getting guys back now,” manager Bob Melvin said of the A’s many starting pitching injuries. “We’ll see where this five goes right now. ... When Mengden’s pitching well, he’s pitched as well as anyone on our staff.
