Movie Pick: “Blow-Up” (1966)
This 1966 film has not necessarily aged well, but it has aged in interesting ways. Like most things that were once the epitome of absolute in-the-moment fashion, some of the things in this film seem ridiculous. It’s about an arrogant young fashion photographer (David Hemmings), who accidentally stumbles onto evidence of a murder. But the murder isn’t the focus of the story, but rather the photographer’s life of parties, fashion models and going around wearing tight white pants. As such, the movie is about life in 1966 — about what the height of aspiration was if you dreamed of living in Swinging London and making the scene. You know, with all the hip people.
