Everett Nevin Stakes: Cozze Kid out to prove her debut wasn’t a fluke
Cozze Kid posted perhaps the most impressive debut by a 2-year-old at Golden Gate Fields since Shared Belief in 2013 when she romped to an 8¾-length victory on May 4. Her time of 51.96 seconds for 4½ furlongs missed the track record by just 0.64 seconds.
Three of her four opponents that day were males, but she is the only filly running against six males in Saturday’s $100,000 Everett Nevin Stakes for California-bred or -sired 2-year-olds at the Alameda County Fair.
“She impressed us right off the bat,” said trainer and co-owner Jamey Thomas. “Her very first work, she did everything right, was better than the company she worked with.
