No sign of progress in German government migration crisis
BERLIN (AP) — A rift in the German government over mass migration showed no sign of resolution Sunday evening as leaders of Chancellor Angela Merkel's party and its coalition partner met separately, each apparently waiting for the other to blink.
The three-week impasse between Merkel and Interior Minister Horst Seehofer, who heads the Bavarian-only Christian Social Union, centers around his resolve to turn away some types of asylum-seekers at Germany's borders.
If Seehofer and the chancellor remain at odds, it could spell the end of Merkel's fourth government.
Merkel has insisted on Europe-wide solutions to handling the waves of desperate foreigners trying to reach the continent.
