Western Line hires 1st new superintendent in nearly 30 years
AVON, Miss. (AP) — A school district in Mississippi has hired its first new superintendent in almost three decades.
The Delta Democrat-Times reports that trustees of the Western Line School District have named Lawrence Hudson as the district's new chief. He succeeds Larry Green, who is retiring.
Hudson will be the first African-American superintendent in the district that is about 57 percent black.
Western Line is in Washington County. It has two elementary schools and two high schools, with a total enrollment of about 1,940.
Hudson most recently worked as principal of Yazoo City High School. He signed a two-year contract Thursday in Western Line and begins work Monday.
