North Carolina sheriff's deputy shoots man wielding shotgun
SNOW HILL, N.C. (AP) — A North Carolina sheriff says a deputy shot a man after he confronted them with a shotgun.
Greene County Sheriff Lemmie Smith told news outlets deputies went to the man's house Friday for a welfare check. Smith said 71-year-old Robert Bigler called the sheriff's office to complain about the government and said there would be a "showdown in his yard."
The sheriff said as deputies talked to Bigler, he went inside his home and came back out with a shotgun. Smith said Bigler pointed the shotgun at deputies and told them to drop their weapons before one of the deputies shot him in the leg.
Smith said charges would be filed against Bigler when he gets out of the hospital.
