SEATTLE (AP) — Defensive end Cliff Avril was released by the Seattle Seahawks on Friday with a failed physical designation due to a neck injury that cost him most of the 2017 season. Avril's release was expected and could mean the end of a 10-year career during which he was a standout player for the Seahawks and the Detroit Lions. SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — Google says it will do a better job of verifying the identity of political ad buyers in the U.S. by requiring a copy of a government-issued ID and other information. HOUSTON (AP) — The number of rigs exploring for oil and natural gas in the U.S. increased by 11 this week to 1,032. At this time a year ago there were 877 active rigs. Houston oilfield services company Baker Hughes reported Friday that 834 rigs drilled for oil this week and 196 for gas. Two were listed as miscellaneous. PAHOA, Hawaii (AP) — Nearly 1,500 people fled from their mountain-side homes after Hawaii's Kilauea volcano sent molten lava chewing through forests and bubbling up on paved streets in an eruption that one resident described as "a curtain of fire."
