«Seattle Post-Intelligencer» (seattlepi.com)

NEW YORK (AP) — The city's quest to make itself a legitimate rival to Silicon Valley as a high-tech hub has long bumped up against some harsh realities, among them the fact it hasn't had a top-tier technology school pumping out the next generation of entrepreneurs and engineers. A potential answer to that problem, a new technology-oriented graduate school called Cornell Tech, cuts the ribbon Wednesday on the first phase of its new campus on an island in the East River.

Senate bargainers say deal reached on children's health

«Seattle Post-Intelligencer» (seattlepi.com)

WASHINGTON (AP) — Senate Republican and Democratic bargainers reached agreement late Tuesday to extend financing for the children's health insurance program for five years, a pact that if approved would avert an end-of-month cash crunch for the popular program. In a concession to Republicans, the agreement would phase out extra federal funds that have gone to states for the program since the additional money was mandated as part of President Barack Obama's 2010 health care law. Money for the federal-state... Читать дальше...

«Seattle Post-Intelligencer» (seattlepi.com)

CUPERTINO, Calif. (AP) — As soon as you see the iPhone X up close, you'll realize that it's nothing like any of the previous models that Apple has released during the past decade. But you might notice striking similarities with some of the sleek smartphones that Samsung, Google and others have been churning out during the past year or two. After a hiatus, Michelle Pfeiffer returns in 'mother!'

«Seattle Post-Intelligencer» (seattlepi.com)

NEW YORK (AP) — When Michelle Pfeiffer first read Darren Aronofsky's script for "mother!" she had an understandable initial reaction. "I thought: What the hell is this?" recalls Pfeiffer. Aronofsky's film is not in any way typical, nor is the kind of project you'd expect a long-absent actress like Pfeiffer to join as her first big-screen performance in five years. The film, intentionally shrouded in mystery, is a wild and weird odyssey by one of the movies' expert conjurers of dark, surreal dream worlds that suspend its viewers ... Читать дальше...
