Labor promises to end $30m ‘tampon tax’ if it wins election

Labor has promised to remove the 10 per cent GST ‘tampon tax' if it wins the next election. The tax — which is worth $30 million a year — is slapped on sanitary products due to their classification as luxury items. Products such as condoms and lubricant are classified as essential products, making them exempt from GST. Opposition leader Bill Shorten described the 'tampon tax' as a 'tax on women'.



Swollen St. John River Floods New Brunswick Communities

The rain was at 1.7 meters above flood level and and approaching levels last reached in 2008, the last major flood, a news report said. Timelapse Shows Spectacular Kilauea Lave Lake Overflow

A lava lake at the summit of Kilauea volcano in Hawaii has now overflowed into the Halema‘uma‘u crater to cover two-thirds of its floor. A timelapse from the US Geological Survey shows 24 hours of activity between April 25-26. The largest of the flows from the lake into the crater was between 6:15am and 10:30am on April 26, when the lava covered 90 acres, or two-thirds, of the crater floor.
