Shares of Western Digital Corp. were rocketing in Tuesday trading after Elliott Investment Management issued a call for the chip company to fully separate its flash and hard-disk-drive businesses and offered at least $1 billion in additional funds to help facilitate such a split.

JPMorgan Chase & Co. analyst Jeffrey J. Zekauskas on Wednesday upgraded shares of Scotts Miracle-Gro Co. to overweight from neutral on the basis of the stock's lower valuation after a 54% drop in the past year. He reduced his price target on the stock to $130 a share from $150 a share. Shares of Lumentum Holdings Inc. shot up 5.9% in premarket trading Wednesday, after the optical and photonic products company reported fiscal third-quarter results that beat expectations, citing accelerating demand, and provided an upbeat current-quarter outlook.
