Tyson Foods Inc. has announced it will offer free education to all U.S. workers starting this summer, including master's and associate's degrees, professional certificates and technology fundamentals. The $60 million investment will span 175 programs across 35 universities and education providers with books, tuition and fees included through a partnership with Guild, an education platform. Pfizer Inc. said Tuesday that an experimental Lyme disease vaccine it's developing with Valneva SE will move into a Phase 3 clinical trial that includes children who are at least 5 years old, based on "positive" results among pediatric participants from the Phase 2 study. The Phase 3 trial is expected to begin in the third quarter. The companies said in a news release that the vaccine candidate was more immunogenic in pediatric participants compared with adults in the Phase 2 study. Archer Daniels Midland Co. shares rose nearly 4% in Tuesday premarket trading after it reported first-quarter earnings that beat the Street. The nutrition company, which produces ingredients like sweeteners and flavors, posted net income of $1.054 billion, or $1.86 per share, up from $689 million, or $1.22 per share, last year. 3M Co. shares rose 1.8% in premarket trade Tuesday, after the maker of post-it notes and industrial equipment posted better-than-expected first-quarter earnings. 3M posted net income of $1.299 billion, or $2.26 a share, for the quarter, down from $1.624 billion, or $2.77 a share, in the year-earlier period. Shares of General Electric Co. sank 3.2% in premarket trading Tuesday, after the industrial conglomerate reported first-quarter adjusted profit and revenue that beat expectations, but missed on free cash flow and provided a somewhat downbeat outlook.
